In a strange crossover that surely wasn’t on our 2025 bingo cards, Ubisoft has announced an in-game crossover event between Assassin’s Creed Shadows and with Attack on Titan, because the war between Marley and Eldia just screams “holiday season.” The event, which runs Nov. 25 to Dec. 22, also comes with free additional story content for Shadows.
“A strange encounter draws Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where whispers of forbidden rituals and monstrous transformations echo through the shadows,” Ubisoft said in a news release. A “strangely garbed woman named Ada” tasks Naoe and Yasuke with adventuring into the Crystal Cave — a key location from Attack on Titan — to save her friend from a clandestine cult. The questline focuses on “strange experiments and a monstrous enemy” (which should come as no surprise to Attack on Titan fans), and is accessible to any players who’ve unlocked Yasuke. Players can start it northeast of Yamashiro, the second major region of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The footage in the trailer showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan as the Crystal Cave — the location in which the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability for generations, before Grisha Yaegar came along. The trailer also ends with someone, presumably the captive, transforming into a Titan themselves, towering over Naoe and Yasuke.
Players who complete the quest obtain an exclusive katana, alongside several objects throughout the area, contained within hidden chests. In-store Attack on Titans item packs will also be made available, including a Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke, a Mikasa outfit for Naoe, weapons, and a Survey Corps mount.
This update also adds the game’s third free story drop, “A Puzzlement.” The lighthearted quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe debuts a theatrical spin on Yasuke’s war kick, while Yasuke picks up non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, “A Puzzlement” also features a new environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some questions that remained unaddressed in Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ main story.
This isn’t the only time Assassin’s Creed has crossed over with popular anime franchises, following 2020 cross-promotional story for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Makoto Yukimura’s Vinland Saga. And unofficially, Valhalla featured a quest that was unmistakably a One-Punch Man reference.
