How to solve the Sarufutsu Lighthouse puzzle in Ghost of Yōtei

Ghost of Yōtei‘s Sarufutsu Lighthouse puzzle looks more complicated than it actually is, thanks to a handful of symbols and some general trickery. The actual solution only involves a bit of object manipulation, but the deception doesn’t end there. What’s waiting for you on the other side isn’t your standard puzzle reward.

Below, we explain how to solve Ghost of Yōtei‘s Sarufutsu Lighthouse puzzle and what’s waiting for you beyond the fox doors. And if you’re having trouble getting your bearings on Ezo, keep our Ghost of Yōtei interactive map handy.

Sarufutsu Lighthouse is at the far northeastern end of Ghost of Yōtei’s map, in the Teshio Ridge region, northeast of the Red Crane Inn and just north of Sentinel Forest.

When you enter the base of the lighthouse, you’ll see four large fox statues, each with a symbol in front of it, two smaller statues, and two empty pedestals in front of a door. The door bears yet another symbol, and none of the symbols near the statues match it.

None of that matters. All you need to do is rotate the two large fox statues so they face the small fox between them. Doing that releases the lock on the small fox statue, so you can pick it up and place it on the empty pedestal near the door. Once you place both small fox statues, you can exit the lighthouse from the back.

The reward for solving Sarufutsu Lighthouse’s puzzle isn’t like most other rewards in Ghost of Yōtei. Opening the locked door gives you access to a path that takes you behind the lighthouse via some light platforming challenges. Once Atsu reaches the ground, she’ll remark on what killed the hunters littering the path. It sounds ominous, but you won’t have a fight on your hands. Up ahead, you’ll find a fox locked in a cage, but before you free them, make sure to explore the two buildings nearby to find some crafting materials and, in the larger building, an Ainu item.

Free the fox and follow them into a cave where you’ll spot a big bear peering down at you. Climb up to the top and follow the path which will spit you out in another clearing. This is Ghost of Yōtei’s Sanctuary Grove, a haven for animals of all kinds, but especially for foxes. Explore, and you’ll meet the grove’s caretaker, who tells you she’ll provide a home for any of the foxes you find around Ezo.

After you interact with the grove’s caretaker, interact with the deer by the side exit, which will lead you to a shrine.
